Honoring Sgt. Sorensen and Officer Estrada – Service Information
Colleagues,
As we prepare to lay Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada to rest, our law enforcement family across Utah feels the weight of this loss. These two officers gave their lives in service to their community, and we now have the privilege and responsibility to honor them with dignity and respect.
Services Open to the Public
- A combined public viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 27, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at Bear River High School in Garland.
- Officer Estrada’s funeral will take place on Thursday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, with a procession to Logan Cemetery.
- Sgt. Sorensen’s funeral will be on Friday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the Spectrum, followed by a procession to East Garland Cemetery.
Cemetery Details
These graveside services will look different than some may expect:
- At Officer Estrada’s service, law enforcement will form the cordon at Logan Cemetery. Following the salute, flag presentation, flyover, last call, and bagpipes, all officers and members of the public will be excused so the family and Tremonton PD may privately lower the casket.
- At Sgt. Sorensen’s service, only Tremonton PD and Box Elder SO will remain at the cemetery. All others will be directed back to the highway by motors.
Logistics
- Parking for law enforcement will be separated from public parking; maps and Estrada’s procession route are attached.
- Shuttles will run from public lots beginning at 8:30 a.m. each morning.
- Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
- Uniforms: Class A with cover and white gloves. If not issued, long-sleeve shirt and tie with duty belt. Civilian staff should wear business attire.
